The Role of Photographic Image in Documentation Life of Old Amman in the First Half of 20th Century

Abstract

This study aims to know the role of photographic image in documentation life of old Amman in the first half of the twentieth century, and to identify the main characteristics of photographic image in documentation life of old Amman in terms of time and place. To achieve the objectives of the study, the researcher used a content analysis tool as a descriptive approach of (50) photographs as a sample out of (394) photographs. The results of the study has indicated that the role of photographic image in documentation life of Amman has focused on political issues in the second period of the year (1926) to (1950), held in the public social places .However, the study addresses the following recommendations: the researcher calls upon the government to take care of the photos representing the Jordanian heritage. The researcher also recommends that the Ministry of Culture and the National Library should create a comprehensive archive of all photographs representing the Jordanian life.
